A native East Texan, Van Brookshire represents House District 12 values and principles. He has a lifelong history of hard work, commitment, and dedication. Beginning in high school, Van worked construction jobs in order to save money to put himself through Texas A&M University. Upon graduation, Van moved to San Jacinto County where he married his high school sweetheart, Kristi.

Van is currently a construction and facilities services director. Before taking that position, Van built and owned a commercial and residential construction company for over 15 years, helping to bring economic development to the East Texas area. He knows what it means to set and meet a budget, make a payroll, and comply with burdensome government rules and regulations.

A tried-and-true conservative, Van will fight for private property rights, lower taxes, and the sanctity of life. He is opposed to oppressive bureaucratic regulation and wants to bring common sense solutions to the challenges facing Texas, including stopping illegal immigration, enhancing economic development, and protecting East Texas water. Furthermore, Van is greatly concerned about the proposed I-69 Corridor and feels it threatens the private property rights of hundreds of East Texas families. As your state representative, Van will work to ensure our private property rights are protected.

Van is dedicated to serving our community. From 2006 until January 2008, he served as the San Jacinto County Republican Chair. A respected community leader, Van was appointed Interim County Judge by the then-Democrat County Judge in 2004 when the sitting judge needed to take a personal leave of absence for illness. Van is also a life member of the area Fair Association, a former member of the Methodist Day School Parents Association, and a member of the Evergreen Community Association.

Van and Kristi have three children: Katie, Sarah, and Joshua. The Brookshires live on their family ranch in Evergreen and are members of the First United Methodist Church.
